We got out of Heidelberg around 9am after Marc made one last walk up to the castle. At first the weather was ok, but then the rain started. The autobahn isn’t as much fun in the rain. The drive was five hours, with the first four raining on us. Then it changed into snow. It was too warm for it to stick, so no icy roads. Whew! We turned in the rental car and took the shuttle to the hotel. There is a train that took us to the city center and the Friday night party was in full force when we got there. So many people! It was so much fun.
This is inside a really nice bar/restaurant called The Grasshopper.
Some funny guy from Wales. He had on patchwork pants that match the jacket.
Waiting for the train
Bikes parked at the train station……and this wasn’t all of them!
Our hotel near the airport.
What a great trip this has been! Looking back I’m so glad we didn’t go all the way into the alps. While in Germany we saw reports of the alps getting pounded with snow. We could have very well gotten snowed in or wrecked the car. As much fun as we’ve had, I think we have reached the point where we are very ready to go home. That being said, we’re looking forward to coming back.
